Who can be tested as part of this project?
Any man who has the surname Fitzhenry or Fitz-Henry
who is genetically a man
and who was born with the surname Fitzhenry or Fitz-Henry
and who inherited this surname from their biological father.
This may seem a bit nit-picking, but here are the
reasons...
If you're a man, the chromosome that makes you a man
is your Y chromosome. You inherit this from your father. He in turn
inherited from his father, who inherited it from his father and so on back into
the mists of time...
(A man also has an X chromosome inherited from his
mother. Women have two X chromosomes, one each from their mother and father.)
The family surname passes from father to son. It also
follows the Y chromosome through the generations.
So...
If you are a woman, you don't have a Y chromosome to test
If you are a woman who has undergone gender reassignment to become a man, you
also don't have a Y chromosome to test.
If you are a man but inherited your Fitz(-)Henry surname from your mother,
genetically you have the Y chromosome of your father and his surname.
How can women take part in this project?
Just like me, by enlisting the participation of your male Fitz(-)Henry
relatives. You may also have information about your particular branch of the
Fitz(-)Henry family that you may want to share with the rest of the worldwide
Fitz(-)Henry clan.
For more information about how you can help or share your
information, please do
contact me.
Even if it's just to say hello.
